How family friendly is public WiFi?

23 June, 2016

Public WiFi is great; it makes it easy to stay connected, but how do we know it is safe for young people when they go online? One way you can check is to look out for the Friendly WiFi symbol in public places like cafes, restaurants and leisure venues.

Friendly WiFi requires public WiFi providers to automatically filter inappropriate content such as indecent images of children and pornography. Excite-ed wholeheartedly supports this important internet safety accreditation scheme, and is calling for more venues to get accredited.

Friendly WiFi accreditation scheme launched in 2014, and was created by The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), and initiated by Government and WiFi providers. Find out more about Friendly WiFi and how to get accredited on their website.
