“What a fantastic project for the children at Homerswood to be involved in. Internet safety is such an important issue and it has been inspiring to see the standard and quality of TechSafe – Privacy.” said Deputy Head Paula Bennett.
Children, their parents and teachers, celebrated the launch of our new internet safety information app at Homerswood Primary School today.
The app was designed and beautifully illustrated by 7-13 year olds from Welwyn, Hertford and Ware schools in the summer holidays.
“I feel really happy and proud that we made a good app to help other children stay safe online,” said Tyler age 10.
Funded by the Big Lottery, the week-long camp, provided an innovative way for children to explore internet safety issues and produce a useful digital tool to prevent identity theft and raise awareness of safe, responsible online behaviour.
“People don’t realise that the UK has a reputation for being the softest online crime target in Europe. Last year the fraud prevention service reported the number of victims of identity theft rose by 57%. If everyone used their privacy settings on social media apps this would drastically reduce,” explained Excite-ed camp leader, Julia Bateson.
